I called them to have my plan activated using my old number to simplemobile. The first customer representative I encountered blew me off and expected me to understand everything he was talking about. He told me I had to have a "pin", which is really just an activation number that comes with your top-up card, but never bothered to explain why or what it meant. He also seemed like he just didn't want to talk to me or bother to explain anything to me. The second representative at simplemobile that I encountered had absolutely no idea how to do his job. Once I figured out the whole pin B.S. he told me I couldn't have my old number ported because there was a hold on it. He told me to call Virgin Mobile and get it sorted out before calling them back at simplemobile. I asked him if after I get the number released if I can call and have it transferred to my new account. He said yes, but he was completely wrong on all counts. I called Virgin Mobile only to find that there was absolutely no hold on my number and I can transfer it any time. So I called Simple Mobile again and the woman who helped me was much more helpful than anyone else I encountered. She explained that my number was indeed valid to port, but that Simple Mobile cannot change the number once a sim has been activated. The previous customer service representative had no idea what he was talking about. Now I have to wait for a new sim card to come in the mail with a pin included. The woman was nice enough to hook me up with a free sim and free pin so that I can continue the service without paying any other fees after that last guy made a mistake.
Do not think for a minute that they have an unlimited plan - read all of the reviews. They will turn off your data without warning. I have an iPhone 4 - it is a 3G phone, that barely gets coverage and operated on EDGE more than 3G. I NEVER used 4G since my phone doesn't have an antennae, yet they cut my data off - even though I have an "UNLIMITED" plan. They LIE. When I called customer service, they kept saying they were transferring me to a "higher department" that could help me, but it was a recording saying that I had exceeded their terms and conditions, then hangs up without the option to speak to anyone.
So after the initial hassle of setting up my account with simplemobile and having to get another SIM because one representative didn't know what he was doing at simplemobile, I have to say that Simple Mobile is indeed a fantastic service. I have been using them since I first posted this review and the call quality is excellent. I get a full signal nearly everywhere I go, and their service is the best price in comparison to every other unlimited 4G plan out there. I use a Blackberry 9900 from T-Mobile with the $50 Blackberry plan and it has been great! I am never going to a contract carrier. In conclusion, I would recommend this to anyone I know who wants a smartphone plan at a great price. The customer service was lacking at simplemobile, but now that I know how to set everything up I always recommend Simple Mobile to my friends and explain how to set it up so they don't have to deal with any hassle. My sister is now using it with a T-Mobile Blackberry Torch and she loves it just as much. I have changed my initial rating from 2 to 4. I would give it a five were it not for having to deal with two slightly irritating employeees. Not the end of the world and worth it to have this great phone service.
Great option for Prepaid GSM mobile users. Setup is simple, i was able to setup/activate and start using up phone within 5 mins. $40 Unlimited talk+text+data plan is a great plan and almost cheaper by $15/monthly for equivalent post paid plans. Go for it if you have unlocked GSM phone and willing to switch to SIMPLE N/W which actually uses T-Mobile network.
First they are not the same as T-mobile in that they do not provide roaming so many places were I get good reception with a T-mobile service I get none with Simple Mobile.
Customer service horrendous.
The data is not only not unlimited even when paying for 4G they cut me off (of all data) when I went over 2Gig!
